BRITISH ELECTIONS.
LLOYD GEORGE LIKELY TO HAVE
BIG MAJORITY
(tteu ter's Telegram.)
LONDON , Dec. 12.
Tlie general feeling m Britain is that Mr. Lloyd George will come back with an immense majority of combined Unionists and Liberals. The principal minority will be composed of Laborites, who may be . expected to outnumber the Liberals who. arc supporting Mr. Asquith.
Ihe voting will, take place on Saturday, but the votes will not be- counted until two weeks later, owing to the overseas ' soldiers' votes."
LONDON, Dec. 11
The general election campaign is now m the final week and interest has quickened. The number of contests where there are more than two candidates is unprecedented, and three-cornered fights are the rule rather than the exception. This is generally accounted for by the disappearance to a largo extent of old party distinctions, also the doubling of electorates by the Reform Bill and the great change m the boundaries of the constituencies, lt is useless for anyone to pretend to know how the women's and soldiers' votes will go. The list of candidates is as follows : —
' Coalition : (471 Candidates) : Unionists 322, Liberals 131, National Democrats 18.
Non T Coalition : (1047 candidates) :— Unionists 75, liberals 253, Laborites 376, Socialists 12, Federation of Discharged Soldiers 23, National Party 24, Sinn Femers 78, Irish . Nationalists 59, Independents and unclassified 120, Agricultural/Party. 7. . ; . The balance of the non-Coalitionists represent various small sections.
