J A deputation of some forty persons f representing the combined liquor trade interests of the Dominion waited on the Prime Minister and Sir Joseph Ward at Parliament Buildings at noon to-day jto present a petition containing 36,826 signatures, praying tliat three issues be put x>n the ballot paper, viz., national continuarice, national prohibition, and iiationail ownei'ship. Kernot, Speight, and Divyer. i Mr. Massey, m reply; said there were other petitions coming ffom Other Sections of the community, adding that they must nOt be delayed, beyond a f ew days. The Government expected to consider them. Tlie Cabinet was engaged picking, up great informatioh. on what was, admittedly a difficult subject, and he hoped that when Government legislation came down it would be final and satisfactory. Sir Joseph Ward said 'he considered the proposal for compensation to be paid to the trade had greatly simplified the problem, and, that was a view to bear m mind when the matter was before Cabinet. .
