WAIKANAE BEACH
MEN'S SHED* TO BE RENOVATED. The Waikanae Beach Committee of the Btrough Council met Mr.. E. L. Lees (representing the Waikanae Beach Improvement Association) this afternoon m the Council Chambers. to discuss matters m connection with the future policy for beautifying Gisßorne's asset. There were present : The Mayor (m the chair) and Crs. H. E. Hill, H. Miller, and H. DeCosta and Mr. E. L. Lees. Mr. Lees' said it was advisable for the Men's Bathing Association to join m with the Waikanae Beaoh Improvement Society m thei interests of the beautifying policy.— Cr. Miljer suggested that competitive designs should be invited for shelters and other buildings to be erected on the waterfront. — Mr. Lees: Mr. Mirfield has done that for the shelter for which the contract has just been let to the value of £65. — Cr. Hill asked whether it would be advsiablei for the two associations to merge. — Mr. Lees pointed out that the. Beautifying Association had been given the use of a one-chain strip of the foreshore from Lowe street to Grey street, and therefore the Men's Bathing Shed Association could not build a pavilion without the consent of the former party. — After further discussion it was. decided to amalgamate the two societies if possible, and call a meeting of the respective societies to further discuss the position. . During the discussion <m relative mat ters, Mr. Lees pointed out that the timber merchants. cS Gisborne had under takeh to reinstate the old rotunda on the beach and move it down nearer the water's edge, for the purpose of utilising it during the summer months for open air concerts. The eommitte decided to have the old men's bathing shdcl repaired for the forthcoming season. . . .
