"MY FOUR YEARS IN GERMANY."

The remarkable photo-history, "My Four Years m Germany," will commence its Gisborne season at the Opera House on Tuesday next. Owing to the film being a very long one it has been found necessary to commence the screening a quarter of an hour before the customary time, to assure finishing at a reasonable hour. The film has created a sensation wherever shown, and both m Melbourne and Sydney crowds had to be turned away night after night. Those fortunate enough to obtain admittance were worked up to an intense pitch of excitenvent, and m the end men rose to their feet, waved hats, and chered, and otherwise demonstrated the wonderful emotional effect of the great picture. This is the more remarkable because it is no wild romance, but a mere statement of actual facts screened with a scrupulous regard for the truth. Ambassador Gerard supervised the production, and saw that the happenings as set forth m his book were m nowise distorted for the sake of dramatic effect. The story opens with a sketch of the scheming Teuton "war lords," and works up to a splendid finish, depicting the march of America's khaki-clad legions. Naturally the chief characters are the foe of civilisation, the Kaiser and his group of satellites. The horrors to. which prisoners of war have been subjected m Hun prison camps are realistically portrayed, and can only engender feelings of disgust and resentment. The. chief events happening during Mr. Gerard's stay m Germany are seT forth with a great wealth of detail, being a very fine tribute to the enterprise and industry of the First National Exhibitors of America. Besides pictures of the life m prison camps, the film contains some scenes of the war itself, vividly depicting the misery of the war-stricken zone m Belgium and Prance. As a means ofi testifying to the brutal and barbarous! character of the Gernyins, "My Four Years m Germany" admirably fulfils its purpose, and deserves to command widespread attention. Special arrange- ( ments can be made for the attendance; of schools, colleges, etc. The box plan is at Miller's corner. - t I
