HIGHER WAGES DEMANDED.

The, tramways Jjjqauh^Vwas advanced a furtlmostage; tniis afternoon at a special meeting of the City Council, when the tramways manager reported that the rmion had declined his offer to recommend a bonus of 10 per cent, on the ordinary time wage 3. Hie council was advised that the men's refusal to work overtime was improper, as such work came under the agreement, and accordingly decided to call upon the men to carry ouj> the duties m ternis of the agreement. The proposals of the New Zealand 'Federation of Drivers' Unions urge that a new agreement be forwarded to the employers. The drivers are demanding greatly increased 'wage's, fewer working hours and improved conditions generally.
