QUARTERLY SITTING. The Licensing Committee sat at 11 a.m. to-day, 1 when Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., presided, and Dr. Collins and Messrs. D./ j. Parker and W. L. Clayton were also on: the Bench. Sub- Inspector -Dew. reported as follows : '.- "I '.beg to ; report that all. improvements .ordered by • the Licensing Bench, at the annual .meeting have been carried out satisfactorily. The conduct of . all hotels m the licensing district during the oparter has . been good!; therefore there is no necessity to make any' particular reference to any particular, house. Tliere has been the usual average number of arrests, for drunkenness during-, the qjiaa^er, , but most . of these were , arrested; during .- the day or eai'ly m ..the evening, . whichvshows the effectiveness of the; 6 p.m. closing. 5 ' A wholesale . license was - granted 'to O.- E. Ashton on: the reports- of the pojice as to- the capabilities and -bona fides, of the,- applicant. "The. following transfers, were granted : George Gillett, .of Makaraka, to Frederick . George Jones-; Herbert CoAert. Patutahi, to George Gillett.
