British-American troops are closely pursuing the Germans. Th© latter may, however, claim that the withdrawal has taken place according to plan. The steady withdrawal of the enemy under pressure back to the line of the Soinme-Oise canal has been accompanied by heavy fighting. The French gained a footing on the east side of the neighborhood of Nbyon,and used it yesterday as a jumping-off place m a f urther advance towards Peronne. The fighting is particularly heavy m th© neighborhood of Juvigny andTornysomy, where the Americans are operating, and a considerable advance has been made, possibly as a result of the enemy having commenced to withdraw from the line of the Vesle river across the Aisne.
