The "Woman's Land Ai'my,". which has now been m successful existence m England for more .'than a j'ear, .now has its: official newspaper, a weekly, called • •' the Landswoman, published through the Board of Agriculture. The first number, iit a summary of ■ the successes- of the worn erf <f arm laborers, says. "There is no farming operation which has hot been ..performed by some of the girls,'- no matter how dirty or how hard." •" * <."-.
TW girls who drive agricultural ti;actqrs have been so great a success that not' a single girl driver- has been returned' as unsatisfactory:. The summary complains ' that "alt through the Land Army the pay is now low compared .vnbli\ that.; m other kind? of women's work, yet the call of . the land is so insistent that' a fine type of gri-l constantly, answers it." Several new branches of work have .beeriropened m the women's agricultural training. centres this year. A large squad is being trained as mole catchers, the mole being one of the most objectionable plagues with which the British farmer , has to, deal. A class m. forestry is being started m Qloucestei'shire, ; and women blacksmiths are being., trained, m three counties. . '
The women's newspaper gives them a Variety of liom^ly hints on; matters ol interest, m their, field 1 work/ and has also several pages, devoted to contributions by the girls
