THE RESIDENTS' HELP iN PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS.

The energetic committee of the Manutuke Women's National .Reserve have prepared a statement showing clearly the financial position m regard to recent efforts organised for patriotic purposes by the members of the ReseiVe, supported by the residents of tho district generally. The report states : — The committee of the Women's National Reserve, on behalf cfl the reserve, have much pleasure m presenting their report and balance-sheets m connection with sports and fete held on April Ist, m aid of V.M.C.A. and Hospital Memorial Ward. The statement of receipts and expenditure shovra that a net profit of £219 lls 2d was realised, this amount being divided between the above-men-tioned objects. ..The gross takings of the day • totalled £255 19s 7&d, the amounts taken at the various stalls being as fallows: —

Expenses totalled £2 7s. The 'substantial sum of £221 has been paid to the V.M.C.A. Red Triangle Fund and [ £109 15s 7d for the Soldiers' Memorfal Fund — a result that is very creditable to the Reserve, the residents of the district generally, and all who . assisted. The report concludes : — "The committee on behalf of the residents of Manutuke, desire to thank residents of Manutuke and surrounding districts, including the natives, who contributed so generously by giving produce, etc., and also fhe business firms and tradespeople of Gisborne for their loyal and generous sup.port, 'without which we could riot have attained such splendid returns. We desire to thank the gentlemen, of tho committee, who so kindly and ably assisted us m carrying oui; the sports programme : also Messrs Whitbread and Hansen and Mr. F. Jeune, who so kindly provided marquees, tents, etc., and to Messrs. Cave Bros., who donated timber for tables, the City Band, who kindly gave their services gratis, and Mr. Dowdle for making sweets."
