TOWN EDITION.

A conference between members of the Cemetery Trustees and the Revs. H. Packe and Jas. Aitken took place this afternoon. The rev. gentlemen recommended that seats should be provided m the new cemetery, that a shelter be erected for the use of clergymen conducting burial services m wet weather, and that tbe public and owners of plots should be invited to contribute yearly to a fund for the beautifying of "God's acre." The trustees agreed to further the recommendations as* far as posible. Captain Trask, Command Paymaster, of Palmerston North, is at present m Gisborne. He has been informed that complaints of the charges for cabling money to soldiers have been made. He points out that it is preferable for soldiers' friends to send money through the Defence Department. Sums of from £1 to £20 may be forwarded at a cost ' of 10s. The procedure is as* follows : For example, a person wishing to send £5 to England, France, or Egypt should take the sum of £5 10s. to the Group Commander at Gisborne, and supply him with the recipient's number, r.iiik, name m full, and whether m France, London, or Egypt, or hospital, also giving the unit to which the eoldier belongs : the sender's name and address m all cases to be given. This money will then be placed to the credit of the public account at Gisborne. The bank receipt and full particulars will then bo sent to tho Command Paymaster. Palmerston North, who will arrange with Wellington for cabling same. By this process it is certain that the money will fall into the right hands, and if not claimed it will lie returned to the sender. Captain Trask states that thou- ; sands of pounds have been cabled by I him, and so far not a penny had been I lost.
