A SMALL LOAN.
When Tomfcins on intimating his desire to borrow half-a-crown was told. ''No, thank you, I only lend three of them, and just now they are all out," he, of course, felt greatly' disappointed. His case was no worse, however, than that of certain lady ofEthis town who, on asking her neighbor for the loan of fifteen shillings, was told, "Really, I am so sorry, but that is just the amount I have m the house, and I must keep it to purchase aome of those splendid knives and forks the People's Emporium are offering just now. They- do not give credit, so I must have the money." It may sound extraordinary; but a customer at the People's /Emporium is a far more - contented person than those who deal ' elsewhere. It is a grand thing to have a contented mind, and to, know you hare had A fair deal.* .
