EXTENSIVE FRAUDS.
BY COMMERCIAL SWINDLE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association^ (Received October 25, 1.30. p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 25. Advices from London state that a sensation has been caused m commercial Girdes by the discovery of a big flour swindle m Australia. It appears that a . syndicate opened negotiations with a reputable Capetown firm for the disposal of a cargo of flour valued tit thirty-five thousand pounds sterling, and the transaction was completed with cash) against bills of lading, which were duly presented, and the buyers drawn upon, a large proportion being negotiated m Australia. Afterwards it was discovered the cargo did not exist and that the bills of lading were clever forgeries. . As a sequel Bruce Bridekirk, described as manager and proprietor of the General Agency and Trading Co.. and Ferdinand Henz, master mariner, have been arrested m Sydney, and remanded on I charges of conspiring to defraud the London Bank of Australia of large sums by. means of alleged false bills of lading, which! represented .they had shipped sroode to South Africa through the Atlas Shipping Co., the latter company being non -existent. ■■
