ASLEEP AT THEIR POSTS.
DISORGANISED RUSSIAN COAST DEFENCES. PETROGRAD, Aug. 17. In a telegram sent to - Mr. Kerensky on the aubjec^. of the sinking of the destroyer Lieutenant Bourakoff by a German mine, Lieutenant Lebedeff, 'the Acting Minister of Marine, reports that one of the most powerful coast batteries, which was entrusted with the defence of the portion of, the Baltic coast off which the destroyer sank, was found by him to be m a state of profound disorganisation.
Tlie "battery was." surrounded withi .heaps of stones and -rubbish, which interfered with the fighting of the guns. There were no sentries posted. At 10 o'clock m the morning, when the Acting Minister visited the spot, the gunners were still asleep. When' the, .Minister ordered -the alarm to be signalled . this could not be done, as the telephone was not working. #
