Briand disclosed that it was he and a so-called, important political personage who received a- '■" peace proposal while staying m Switzerland m September. Prince, von Bulow sent him a messenger suggesting peace, and offering to restore' Alsace, and Lorraine to ; France and Trieste to Italy, but demanding compensation at Bussia's expense.
This announcement explains the Anglo-French assurance to 'Russia m. September against such a. peace.
