GERMAN DEFEAT.
AMERICAN FINANCIERS SAY IT IS DUE THIS YEAR,
The Daily Telegraph New York financial correspondent writes :— American j experts on international finance, whose perceptive powers have been sharpened considerably by a more active participation m world finance,/ are multiplying signs that Germany will go down to ignominious defeat thie year. Germany has been described to me as being m the position of a. man holding a wild cat by its tail. So long as a firm grip on the tail could, bo maintained, the man was tolerably safe. Germany, it is believed, is fast 'losing her grip.* Continued Allied successes on all fronts, a failing submarine campaign and the knowledge that, without chemical fertilisers, Germany's next crop *• ill be woefully inadequate to relieve her distressing food situation, all contribute to strengthen the view held here that the end is m sight. Financiers, therefore, are giving serious consideration to conditions they expect to find when hostilities cease, and they do not disguise thenl concern over the dark outlook for Germany's economic future.
