AUSTRIA'S ATTITUDE

NO-ANNEXATTU-* POLICY.

ALARM IN GERMANY

(Australian and N.Z. Cattle Association.) , LONDON, April 30. The Morning Post's Amsterdam correspondent says German political circles are perturbed by the Vienna Fremdenblatt's semi-official statement that Austria does not desire annexations.

The Kolnische Volks Zeitung appeals for an official disclaimer, pointing out that Germany entered the war to protect Austria. The paper enlarges on tho necessity for a territorial rearrangement of the eastern frontier and also the Balkans in. the interests of Germany's future safety, and appeals to Austria to defy Socialist menaces and thus preserve an unbroken military front. The Central News Agency's Amsterdam' correspondent says much attention in Germany is directed to Herr Hertzing'.s mission to Austma. It is understood that he was specially chosen by the Kaiser to dissuade Austria from thp wo-annexaltiion policy revealed in the Premdenblatt.

It is well known that the Etmperor Charles fully endorses M. I'zernin's pacific tendencies-

The Daily Telegraph's Milan coiiv>spondent says advices from Vienna, show that the newspapers first pointed out that the policy of not annexing Russian territory would not preclude Austrian from annexing Serbia and Montenegro, but later, acting on official inspiration, they announced thait Austria was prepared to renounce all annexation, and even hinted that Austria might restore the Trentino and Trieste if Italy induced the Allies to open peace pourparlers.
