Tbe Paris Journal's correspondent at British headquarters states : General Hindenburg- was here a week ago and saw his best troops driven from the impregnable Vimy Ridge.
He saw the Bavarians worn out give place to the Brandeburgers and Pomeranians. He saw bis lines here hacked to ( pieces, their shaken and torn remnants' indented by the British guns.. He saw his defence crumble before the young well-trained armies' ardent drive. He saw Gavrelle heaped up with thousands and thousands of German corpses. Ten times the Prussian Guards counterattacked the village and ten times they fell back defeated.
Hindenburg came and saw, and went away conquered.
