In a southward advarite m the direction of Greenland Jull we took a trench running southwards from the Scarpe. . V The Germans ate fight/Lng desperately, despite heavy losses, especially m the woods westward of Roeux.
The British are reported /to have taken Arlaux, also Halse and, Oppy. The Germans aro counter-aittacking madly. \
LONDON, April 28, 5.15 p.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports : The ; heaviest fighting .continues about the Scarpe to the Acheville-Vimy road.
Arleux hag been captured. We hay* also made progress , north-east of Canirclle, on the western slopes of Greenland hill.
