ADOPTING CONSCRIPTION

The House, by 270 votes to 98, adopted an amendment of the Army Bill embodying President Wilson's conscription proposal, eliminating -preliminary volunteering. (Reuter's Telegram.) WASHINGTON, April 29. The House adopted conscription by 397 votes to 24. Tlie Senate rejected an amendment to the Army Bill authorising the call of half a million volunteers between the age of 69 and 18. Senator Harding's .amendment permitting Colonel Roosevelt to raise four infantry divisions for service m France was adopted by 56 votes to 39. A Senate ' enactment prohibits the sale of liquor at Army posts and training camps, or to anyone m uniform under any circumstances. The British Enfield trifle has been adopted foa* the United States army. (Received April 30, 10.5 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 29. As m its passage through the . Senate the Army Bill provides for a draft between the ages of 21 and 27, and m the House the ages fixed were between 21 and 40, tho difference will be thrashed out at an early conference.
