Mr Ba.tliurst, m the House of Commons, said the estimated consumption of bread last week was six pounds per head, instead of four. ;Mr Kelleway, m moving the second reading of the Munitions Bill, dealing with wages, the settlement of disputes, other matters, said the expenditure on shells, of over six inches, m the first week of the recent offensive was double the expenditure m the Somme battle. The second week's expenditure was six aaid a half times that of the Somme. Another marked difference was that the expenditure of shells m the first week of the Somme battle was greater than that of the whole of the offensive, but m th© recent offensive we were able to expend twenty-eight per cent more ammunition m the second week than the first. *'
