The whole press, m the gravest tone, states itha-fc the food menace must be resolutely grappled with. Several papers criticise the Admiralty, and consider that it should tackle the evil at, the soui*ce ahd bottle up the submarine's exit holes, preventing their egress. The Government is approaching the Coumty Councils and borough ahd rural district councils to enable food tickets to be introduced during, the next few weeks. It is expected that horse racing will be practically suspended. Lord Lytton, m the House of Lords, said some of the standardised merchant shjffs. would be ready m July. In* the House of Lords, debating submarining, Lord Chas. Beresford said the losses were terrifying and the public should be told more of the gravity of the position.
