NEW YORK, January 3. Ashmead-Ba-rtlett, the English war correspondent ha.s arrived here, alter spending three months with the French forces ou t.lva Somnie and at Verdun. He said that the French troops had any .amount of ammunition and supplies; when he left the front three -weeks ago, and the men were in excellent condition and spirits. "I stick to my original opinion, printed over a year ago," Mr Ashmead-BartjX lett said, "that there will be no cessation of hostilities before -October, 1917, if then. Some of the pessimists in high places in England say the wafc?4 will last another five yeans, but I can? not conceive that could be possible." *
