THE ILL-FATED LAURENTIC.
(Australian and N.Z. Gable Association.) LONDON, February 1. At the inquest, Captain Norton, of the Laurentic, gave evidence that there were 470 -people aboard. The vessel sailed at 5 o'clock m the* evening of the 25th. The first explosion was at 5.5 b p.m., and there was another 20 seconds later. The best of order prevailed. Wituoßs and the chief steward inspected Hie ship before quitting, and were satisfied there were no men left, but possibly the explosion killed some, m the engine room, as no, survivors therefrom were landed. . Captain Norton \q\iiitted the ship when she was sinking. , : Other evidence showed that one boat contained 17 frozen bodies, and m another 15 were frozen out of 20.
