One hundred members Of. the crew ot time Spani.sh steamship Pio IX. from New Orleans for Barcelona Avere drowned by the sinking of the vessel in a storm when 200 miles off tlie Canary Islands. . Twenty-two members of the crew were saved. The Pio IX.-,- laden with ootton, carried no passengers. The steamship Buenos Ayres, which was in tha vicinity, was able to give but slight assistance on account of the high_ seas. y
