OFF TO CAMP.

•■ 22nd '* REINFORCEMENTS. The Gisborne quota, of 22nd Reinforcements who left last night for camp were' accorded a fitting farewell. As expected there was a considerable, shortage, although a somewhat large draft of 86 men was asked from Gisborne. Altogether the group mustered 51 recruits. One of the men who intended leaving, T. J. Hennessy, reported sick, and. he could not get away. The draft assembled at the Garrison hall at 6 o'clock last night, and were { presented- with badges and housewives >y the Women's Patriotic Committee, and with pocket testaments by Mr Mbrris. The Mayor addressed a few words of •farewell to the men. '.', He commended them for answering the -call, and urged them to get fit quickly, and when they got to the fighting line, to uphold the honor of then? country, which he was sure* they would do. The men who had gone before them had set a high, example, wliich he was sure thoso nowgoing Avould endeavor to follow. He wished them God-speed and a safe return.. As the departure of the launch was put off for three quarters of an hour the men were dismissed for half :n hour. On reassembling, they were addressed briefly by Lieutenant-Colonel Mbir, Group Commander. He confratulated the men on. the spirit they ad shown m coming forward A'oluntarily to do their bit for King and country. He reminded them that tliey were How soldiers — they were Anzacs, .and they all knew what that meant. A very high standard had been set, and Le urged the men to live up. to the/high traditions of the Anzacs. He was an Anzac, and was proud ' of it, and he wanted them to ho proud of it, too. Captain J. R. Kirk j who also left for camp last night, then took charge of the parade, and 'the 'recruits, accompanied by the City > Band and National Reserves, marched to the wharf, where they took their departure amidst tho discoursing of . appropriate music and cheering. t. Woodhead, Alfred Charles, married, 32 years, ' locomotive driver, TokomarU Bay.
