FOUND DROWNED.

i BODY NOT IDENTIFIED.*. , An Inquest concerning the death of an j elderly man whose body was;, found m ! the Turanganui river this morning, was j opened this afternoon before Mr W. A. i Barton, S.M.. District Coroner. Seniorj Sergt. Murray conducted' the inquiry. In reply to the coroner Senior-Sergt. J Murray said they had been unable to \. ascertain the identity of the deceased. The Coroner : In that case this \vill have to be an inquest as on a person i unknown. ■ .'■•»/'. •Kenneth Murray McGregor, waterside worker, gave evidence as to seeing the body m the Turanganui river as he was proceding down the river m his yaoht at 5.15 this morning. The police 'were notified. .''.-., Constable "Fischer gave evidence as to recovering tlie body from the river and removing it to the "morgue. He described the appearance of the body and how the deceased was dressed. There waß nothing about the body by which witness could positively identify it, but it was very much like that of a man named David Sutherland; The Coroner : Has anybody , been reported missing? Witness: Not to my knowledge. Senior-Sergt. Murray said several , men had seen the body, and one man [ is almost sure that it i>-i that of the man I Sutherland. • The Coroner : The body cannot be kept any longer. I suppose ? , Senior-Sergt Murray said he proposed having the body photographed. . The Coroner returned a verdict that the body of deceased, a male person, whose name is unknown, was found floating m the Turanganui river. No marks of violence appear on the body; but there is no evidence as to how or by what means the man got into the river.
