Sir William Ramsay distinguished himself by researches into the constituency of the air. In conjunction with 1 Lord Rayleigh he discovered argon. Besides discovering helium he has also detected m the air the unknown elements to which he has given the Greek names of neon, krypton, and xenon. He was awarded the Nobel prize m chemistry (m 1904. He was President of the Brit ish Association m 1911. In his presidential , address he gave warning as tc the limit of coal supplies. .
