PUZZLES GERMAN CORRESPONDENTS. POSSIBLY A NEW OFFENSIVE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received July 24, 9-5 a.m.) LONDON, July 23. The Central News' Amsterdam correspondent says that the German war correspondents have been puzzled by tho British attacks on Fromelles and soutii of Armentieres on Wednesday evening, wherein two strong divisions were engaged. Some consider it introduces a new offensive • some that it preludes a serious attempt to advance towards Lille ; others that it is a mere demonstration to prevent the Germans sending troops to the menaced sectors at Hooge.
