WORK OF COLONEL RHODES.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Minister of • Defence laid on the table Colonel Heaton Rhodes' report oh his official visit to Egypt, Gallipoli, and Malta. He moved that the reportbe printed. '.-'■- Mr Wilford spoke appreciatively of the work done by Colonel Rhodes, saying v that the information sent to : New Zealand was of great comfort to parents who, prior to his visit, were in grave doubts as to certain matters which Colonel Rhodes was able to set right. The Minister, in reply, said the /senior officer of . the Postal Department wa« leaving shortly for France to take charge of the postal arrangements. He spoke in warmest terms of the unselfish work done by Colonel Rhodes, whoso report was a most favorable document.

WELLINGTON, tins day. - The following figures refer to past and present students of the four affiliated .colleges in University of New Zealand : Serving at tho front or in camp 1135, killed in action 96, wounded 63 (number from one college not given), holding commissions 349, members of teaching staffs 16. Included in the . above' are eight New Zealand Rhodes , scholars. Two of them, Sergeant Allan Wallace and Lieutenant Athol Hudson have been killed in action. NELSON, this day. Word has , been received that Lieut. Athol Hudson, son" of the late Dr Hudson and Mrs Hudson, Tapawera, has been killed in action. Lieut. Hudson was an old boy of Nelson College and Waitaki High School, and was selected in 1915 as the Rhodes scholar from Victoria College.

(Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Captain A. E. Critchley Salmonson. who was on loan to the New Zealand Government at the time of the outbreak of war, and who left with the Main Expeditionary Force as adjutant to the Canterbury Infantry Battalion; is now commanding an Egyptian battalion station at Khartoum, with the rank of Bnnbashir. In his new command all orders are spoken in Turkish. He had been deemed unfit for active service owing to a wound received on Gallipoli, when the appointment to the Egyptian army wa s offered. Captain Salmor-aon has friends in all parts of New Zealand.
