Messrs Williams and Kettle have received the following report from their London agents, dated June 1:-— Wool: Tlie fourth' series of colonial wool sales for tlie current year . commenced on the 30th May, with a -good attendance of buyers, whilst competition was generally active, especially for all the finer quah-t-'es 6i wool. On the opening night the offerings amounted to 6515 bales, contained iii two catalogued, of which soihe 2240 bales comprised New Zealand de-, scriptions. Australasian merin f os met a. particularly good market,' and very keen competition characterised the biddings, prices marking an, appreciation ct 7£ per cent, on those current at the close of the previous series. •In the case of crossbreds, the finer grades imprqved about 5 per cent., but for the medium and coarse nr> appreciable alteration m values took place, although prices were fully firm. The total net available quantity for the series is 60,500 hales, of which bale;} are New Zealand and 4052 bales Capes. It is always hazardous to predict the course .of any market, and none more so than wool, 'but m view of the clothing and maintaining of the enorftbous armies m the field, the demand for I crossbreds 'for khaki clothing must continue, and hence it is not unreasonable to anticipate that the present level of prices at least should be maintained, whilst some appreciation m price would appear probable. The Bradford market for tops is strong both for merinos and crossbreds, quotations being as follows : 60's merino, 3s lid per lb; 56's fine crossbred, 3s 3d; 50*3 do., 2s 9_d ; 46*8 medium -crossbred, 2s sd; 40's coarso crossbred, 2s 3£d; 36's d 0,., 2s 2d.
