CANADIAN TRADE BOOM.
Ontario manufacturers say that the chief benefit from German and Austrian products beiiig lcept at home ii not so much that they are barred from Canadian markets as that Canadian manufacturers are . now supplying the increased demand in other parts' <>f the world. As an instance, manufacturers of patent leather report "that, since the outbreak . of the waa- they are selling tlieir goods in Australia, New Zealand, and England. Formerly this business was practically all handled by Herman manufacturers. The manufacturer of drugs and chemicals are also e-j;>yii7g a business boom by reason of tlin increased, market for their products. Manufacturers of tapestries are repla-c---'i- Austrian-made goods with Canadian products. Incandescent light balbs, practically all of which .wero formerly imported from Austria, are now manufactured in Toronto, where practically all the bulbs used in Canada are made. Electric shades, opal lamp shades, etc., are also bein£ mado lo supply Canadian demands, and tho .piano trade, always extensive in Ontario, is busier than ever.
