Heavy fighting is in progress. On the rest' of the front the work is unimportant. LONDON, July 19, 3 p.m. The French official report says : — The night was calm on the greater part of the front. Two coup-de-main by the enemy on our small posts in the region of Passchendaile, in Belgium and north of the Aisne, near Passy, failed under fire. ' On the right of the Guise there has been lively artillery work in the sector Fleury. We made some prograss with grenades at Ohapelle Saint Fine. 'LONDON, July 19, 3.45 p.m. General Haig reports: — '* An enemy attack, the beginning of which has already been reported, was directed during the night on outposts ot" our new positions east of Bazentin village. Very large German reinforcements collected for the attack, after intense artillery fire. •The first assault was delivered in dense masses at 5.30 p.m. The fighting continued particularly violent at Belville Wood throughout the night. After, suffering very heavy losses, the enemy succeeded in recapturing a portion of Bellville Wood and also obtained a footing: in the northern outskirts of Longueval. Elsewhere the attack, including three separate assaults on Waterloo farm, completely broke down under our fire. From the rest of the front the news is unimportant. *
