In the House of Lords Lord- Crewe. moved lhe adjournment of the debate on Lo.'d- Miliioi's motion. Lord Milner declined to accept cm adjournment. Lord Jimsdowne regi-elted the refusal. There were serious differences of opinion within the Cabinet m regard to recruiting— differences so grave that they threatened to ; break up the Cabinet, which would 'be a grave national disaster. He was convinced the members of tl^ Government would gladly step aside if it could be shown where there, were others competent to •tako their places at the work. Hs denied that members of the Cabinet could not make up their minds. It was because their convictions were deep-rooted that they wei-e unable for the moment to find a middle course and escape from the" difficulty of. the situation. They asked for a. -few' days' grace to enable them to meet Parliament with a united front' and a policy the whole Cabinet approved of. - Lord Derby said he wa<? prepared Ie vote for Lord Milner's motion, but supported the. adjournment. The House adjourned till Tuesday. .In the House of Commons Mr *Asquith said he regretted to say there were material poipts of disagreement m the Cabinet, which if not settled by agree: ment rimst result m tJie .break-up, ofthr Government . (Hear, hears, and cries of disapproval.) Mr Asquith, continuing, said that the Cabinet was united m believinp tJra< "such r. p.- event would be a national rlis aster of the most formidable kind, but they hoped to avert it, by a fsw more days of deliberation. He moved the adjournment till Tuesday. vSir Edward Carson, while regretting tne delays m the statement on recruiting, said he. would b« the last to su/r gest, that time should not be driven'- to enable an agreement to be reached.
