EASTER HOLIDAYS.

Cunditiona to-day gave promise oi' ■j, .splendid weather for the Easter holi->-days. Already a number of townspeople have left for .various holiday (resorts,, ethers having departed ior outside een-* tres; the Arahura on her -last trip to Xapier was a, full sliipj and 'carried many passengers north to-day.'" Busmass is being suspended' for several days, a , number of the firms closing till Wednesday morning. Easter is always the occasion oi\ special church services^ and to-morrow (Good Friday) %vill be marked by the usual devotional observances. In addition to the morning gathering at Holy Trinity to-morrow, his Lordship, the Bishoji of Waiiipu will conduct a meditation service from noon to 3 p.nv. In 'the eveWiug '-the choir will render the devotional cantata •'Penitence.. Pardon and Peace:" Special Easter services which opened at St. Marys Church, will also be continued to-morrow m celebration of Passion Week. The Bible «lass organisation of the district is uniting m rally at Matawhero. Special servces are -also being conducted m the churches on Easter Sunday.

The Waerenga-o-kuri Gun Club announce their opening shoot will be held at Waerenga-o-kuri on Saturday, a programme of four matches Haying been <uTangod. "

A contingent of Southern bowlers arrived from Nap-ier bj tho Arahura this morning to participate m the annual Easter tournament for the Bui'tori trophy, which this year is being conducted on the Gisboroe Club's green: Record entries lia-ve been received, numbering 28 rinks, including 'represer.ta-. lives from Wairoa, Port Ahuriri, Napier Hastings, and the local clubs. Play will be extended over the holidays,the .visitors, returning South; by the Arahura on Tuesday evening! ' Other fixtures for Monday include the Rifle Association's gathering at Manga-' papa. The committee met last -night to make final arrangements Tor the shoot. Tho number of entries forthcoming is satisfactory, and with a well-filled prise list, a successful day's shooting should i-esult. In addition to the trophies and cash prizes already announced, a donation has been received from the president of the Association (Mr- G. Special train services are announced for the Easter holidays. To-morrow (Good Friday) only one train will be despatched- from town, at 9 a.m.) reaching . Matawai at 12.35 p.m., whilst a frairi from Matowai will reach town at 10.15 a.m. On Monday an excursion train leaves town at 9 a.m. for Matawai. and again at 5 p.m, morning- and afternoon ' trains being run fronv Matawai to town practically as usual.
