ROWING.
The committee of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club met last evening. There were present Messrs R. Patty, club captain (m. tho chair), W. Hall, A. Kirk, A. 'Drummond, E. Mellor, li. Stitchburj', and Hv.Seara (secretary), donation was received from Mr Reg. Caulton (president) of a set of gold medals for a pair-oar event. j : ! It was decided that a. general meeting of tho club bo hold on May 2. d. Th.o final of tlie , pair-oar event / took plaicd' last evening .on the Waimatacourse between R. Patty (stroke) and A; Drummand /■fbow) scratch, and J. Joluiston (stroke) and W. Bousfield (bow), 13 sees. A good start was made by both crews, Johnstone, who was rowing tlie- faster stroke, had increased his handicap lead by two lengths when the William Pettie bridge was reached. Patty wan rowing well, however, and when passing through the Kaiti bridgo was f-veen to be gaining ground, finally winning au excellent race by a length.
