EIGHTH REINFORCEMENTS.

THE GISBORNE DRAFT

Up to last night .only 32 out of the 189 men selected to form the Gisborne draft of the Bth. Reinforcements had not reported to the Defence Office. This must bo considered satisfactory, m view of the large draft and the scattered nature of the district. Twenty-three out of the 133 mounted have not yet reported, also 3 out of 30 infantry, and 5 out of 22 artillery. The. three engineers and one signaller have all reported. It was expected that a number of men would report to-day, but those who do not report before next Tuesday, 12th inst., will not be included m the draft, as other men are waiting to get away, and all vacancies will be filled up on Thursday. The various hotels are billeting tho men, and the people of Napier are organising a day function, whilst, the Napier Savage Club are putting on an entertainment' for the evening. Arrangements are being made locally for a church parade on the Sunday, the men leave Gisborne.
