ROAD METAL SUPPLIES.

SHtPiIENT OEIiERED IfROAI COROMANDEL.

Road "metal- supply continues just as difficult a problem with the Borough Council a*' 'heretofore. Kecently the i'uunril experimented •with Dunedin blue .stone at £1 per yard; and also, with .samples of Motuhora, Matawai, and Kakauroa stone. Last night the Jknough Council <'ommittee received ' an offer of (Joromandel stone from Tuk*tuki at 17s 6d per yard delivered at Crisborije. The offer, which was submitted by Messrs Husslnou and Reardoii, of Auckland, was accepted for a trial shipment. The stone is a granite similar to Dunedin, and be shipped to Gisborne probably by steamer. Ci\ Urown reported to the committee that an inspection had been made of v'aptain ,T. TombJiesonV stone deposits near Rnkauroa, and samples: of the material wore" placed before the Councjl. It was decided ! to write to Captaan Tombleson to /ascertain if the stone could bo landed at Gisborne at a reasonable figure, as it, would apparently, be suitable for second-class streets., v Speaking. U> a Hei-ald representative to-day the Mayoi'- said the Coromandel stone, which appears to bo of a very hard nature, would only cost 6s per yard to load and the batance at 12s 6d (making the 17sl<?_d per yard) comprised the steamer freight.
