HEAVY AUSTRO-GERMAN LOSSES.
ROME, May 31. Official: The Italians have occupied Ciina Spessa, near Storo, and captured the Lusrerua Fort, on tho Asiago Plateau, and also Cima Vezena and the village of Vezena, besides the Trecroci Pass and Cortina Daralezzo, m Cadore. The operations on the eastern frontier of Trentino are chiefly artillery duels. The Austrians occupy the best posi tions, but tho Italians are silencing one after another of tho enemy's forts dominating the valley near Sette Comurn, j and also m the Adige and Sugana Valleys leading to Trent. The Austrians on the Friuli frontier have long been strengthening with numerous guns their position on the left bank of the lonzo. They have commanding forts, and also strongly hold several points on the right bank covev-^ ing tie, town of Corizia. Heavy rains have transformed the rivers into torrenta. , As a protection against air raids, the colonnade of the Doges Palace has been; bricked m and sand heaped on the front and roof of the palace. The cathedral is covered with sandbags, and the bronze horses have been removed from the cathedral arch. There is so great a rush to join the colors that the authorities have tern porarily suspended voluntary enlistment. ■■' BERNE, May 31. It is estimated that 1600 Austro-Gei-mans have been killed m the Italian frontier fighting, and 3000 have been wounded and 1000 taken prisoner. Six hundred thousand Austro-Ger mans and 70 batteries are concentrating against Italy. 1
