N.Z. NATIONAL RESERVE.
POVERTY BAY DIVISION.
A meeting and parade of the National Reserve is called for to-morrow (Wednesday) night at 7.30 o'clock. As this is the initial parade of the local unit, a full attendance of members and intending members is expected. Besides drill some very important business will be discussed. The National .Reservemovement has caught on ; solidly right throughout the Dominion, and at a recent church parade m Auckland Domain, a muster of 2400 members took part and attracted over 15,000 people. Mr H. H. de Costa, the local secretary, received a letter from the Napier branch of the reserve, giving him particulars of what is being done there. The Napier division is divided into four platoons, and on an average 200 parade weekly. The military authorities have given them the use of the Drill Hall, and conduct classes for N.C.O.'s and men wishing* to become N.C.O.'s. The Borough Council light up the Marine Parade free of cost for the .weekly drill held there..
A supply of badges for the local division, has been ordered from Wellington, and should come to hand at an early date. The local committee have m view the formation of a branch ,of the St. John Ambulance Corps. The benefits of such a body are too well known to need comment. , Enrolment is proceeding briskly, and it is hoped that the local branch will be as strong as any division outside the four centres, most of Gisborne's leading citizens having already enrolled. At a meeting of the committee held, last evening, Mr S. G. Cowles, care of Dalgety and Cb., was elected hon. treasurer.
