THE LANDING AT DARDANELLES.

SURPRISED THE TURKS

, BRILLIANT EXPLOIT OF THE FRENCH. (Received May 31, 9.5 a.m.) CAIRO* May 30; An official report from the Dardanelles states that the Allies' plan was to land a large 'force on the coast without natural cover, having as possible landing places only a few small ; beaches dominated by heights in the immediate rear. According to an Army order found on a Turkish offices the Turks were convinced that a landing under fire from trenches and redoubts on a rising shore was out of the question. The British undertook the nrincipal action against the peninsula, the French carrying out a. •demonstration on the Asiatic coast until the British disembarkation had been effected. Details are given of the landing of | French ; marine and Senegalese forces on a few square, yards of ledge under the overhanging black mass of Ivum Kale, which was bristling with rifles -and. machine guns. The windmills in the vicinity we're crowded with mitrailleuse, while the batteries at Intejie commanded the coast. A shell put out of action the occupants of the first boats. The captain jumped into the sea and waded ashore, Senegalese from a string of boats following. The ledge was in-, stantly occupied. Meanwhile warships' guns destroyed the windmills and mitrailleuse, and the enemy were driven out of the forts. Furious counter attacks daily ensued, hundreds of the enemy being killed, and they were so demoralised that they did not attempt to interfere with the* withdrawal of the French when the brilliant demonstration had terminated. . ,'
