DIMINUTION OF CRIME.

The police attribute the notable diminution m crime since the beginning of the Avar to the public keeping better hours, early closing of public houses, a ne\v consciousness of national duty, increased prosperity of the poorer classes, and absence of unemployment. The brewers' output has been reduced 40 per cent, m some districts. The very prosperity of the working class hinders recruiting, and the increased demand for labor checks employers encouraging men.
