CLUB CRICKET MATCH.

The cricket match played at Tamil eru yesterday afternoon between teams selected by the President and Vice-pre*-sident of the Poverty Bay Club resulted in an easy win. for the Vice-presi-dent's side. As reported in our last issue, the President's team were all disposed of for 83, the double-figwe scorers being : A. H. Hodge (17), G. M. Reynolds (15), R. G; Hallamore (10), and R. E. Barton (10). The Vice - President's side replied Avith 127, the top scorers being A; C. Cooke and B. J. 'Holdsworth, who knocked up 25 each. S. M. Palmer and R. B. Lusk were the other" batsmen to run into double figures. The partnership between J. R. Murphy and S. M. Palmer, which was going on at 3.15, did not last- long, the former going out l.b.w. to Barton, the board then reading 66 — 6 — l. At 77 Palmer, who had made 15, was nicely taken by K. S. Williams off Barton. At this stage C. A. Fenwick replaced R. G. Hallamore behind the stumps, and at the afternoon tea adjournment G. Coop, who had taken Murphy's place, and R.. G. Dyinock^ who succeeded Palmer, were at the wickets. Runs had been coming in slowly, both bowlers sending down two maiden overs in succession. When play resumed, J. Murphy replaced Dr. Kahlenberg. Soon afterwards Coop was dismissed, and J. B. Broadhui'st, who followed, was quickly sent 'back, the board reading 83 — 9—5. Just before the separation, Dymock hit a single, which brought the score on even terras with the President's team's score. Dr. Col-

lins joined Dymock, who Avas accorded an ovation for making the winning hit by driving Barton for four. A. couple of balls later the same batsman tipped the ball, which was- smartly held by J. R. Murphy with one hand ; 87— 10—5. LI. Etherington partnered Dr. Collins, and the latter opened his score with a nice boundary stroke, and .90 went up. Three balls later, a "shooter" from Barton scattered the batsman's wickets. _ The next two wickets fell with only one more being added to the score. When J. M. Gouldsmith joined Holdsworth, the former gave an exhi- j bition of stonewalling, while the. latter hit out freely. With *a, nice stroke for a brace, the century was reached. At this stage_ W. E. Ensor went on to bowl at R. E. Barton's end, and R. G. Hallamore replaced J. Murphy. While Gouldsmith continued to block every ball, Holdsworth got in some fine strokes, and hit three fours in succession. It was amusing, to see the fieldsmen close in on Gouldsmith in the hope of effecting a catch. The batsman, however, outwitted his opponents by getting through with a square-leg to boundary, amidst loud applause from the spectators. Shortly afterwards Holdsworth was dismissed, after making 25; 123—14—25. W. F. J. Ander-, son was the next man, but he did not' stay long, returning his third ball to. Ensor. The second to last man was. A. W. Rees, the Vice-president, but his career -was. -short-lived, being flanbowled by Ensor. The last man was J. Kinder, and at- this stage R. Coop started bowling in place of Hallamore. The last ball of his only over was hit ' by Kinder to square-leg, but there was | not sufficient force in the stroke, and ] Dr. Kahlenberg held the ball in fine style with one hand.
