BARTON'S CIRCUS.
The successful season of Barton Bros.' circus was continued last night at tne site at the corner of Lowe and Kahutia streets. There was again a large attendance, and the varied programme, including many clever turns, was fully enjoyed, as tlio outbursts of enthusiasm amply testified. The circus well deserved the patronage accorded. Performnaces of special note were given bv the St. Leonards, lady and gentleman comedians, their clever comedy chair act being a striking portion of their work. 1' rancis Roy Barton, the .bounding jockey, gave a splendid exhibition of horsemanship and sensational equestrian feats. Miss Etirer Asbton aroused great "enthusiasm with -her silver thread and aerial flying act. .? The clown gave some clever pertormanceSi in which comedy and skill were blended. The audience was greatly mystified by the Braemars, in their wonderful second-sight performance, while Professor Marvin, as a sharpshooter, greaitly surprised the onlookers. Some novel and entertaining musical performances were given by Mr Fred Carlson, who also sang /'Killarney" with good effect. The trick, pony, Tom Thumb, again proved a ■ great favorite. Quite a charming portion of the evening's entertainment was that given by the Leonards with their pretty white French poodles. They comprise half a dozen snow-white animals of dainty appearance, and as they went •through their performances — all showing wonderful . training — the audience gave vent to their delight with much applause. The buckjumping portion of the programme caused much excitement and fun, and the rough-riding was a very popular feature, good horsemanship being admired and warmly applauded, and many a good laugh being obtained aft the expense of over-con-fident riders who failed to accomplish tasks that at first seemed so easy to achieve. A horse brought in by Mr F. Foote was successfully mastered by Bronco Bill. Mr Barton announced 'that Mr Wilson's conditional challenge to ride the highjumper Tornado had been accepted, and the amount (£10) deposited with a local business man, the event to take place to-night.
