At the Supreme Court, Arthur Leonard Anaell, aged 24 years, for an offence against a boy, was sentenced to five Years. Albert Edward Greenwood, a recent arrival from England, was sentenced to a year for indecent assault and two years' reformative treatment for attempted carnal knowledge of a child. k«orge Slavish, for attempted breaking and entering and theft from a dwelling, and breaking, entering, and theft, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences Co be concurrent. Mary Jane Coplo, for house-breaking at Bulls, was sentenced to a year's reiormative treatment. Willianv Samuel Beelire, for forgery and uttering, was admitted to probation for eighteen mouths, and ordered to refund the money, pay costs, and to reside with his mother. Frederick Maurice Barlow, for theft of money at Stratford while bailiff at the Magistrate's Court, was sentenced to four months' imprisonment. Chas. Geddes, aged 65 years, for false pretences at Blenheim, was sentenced to three years' " imprisonment and declared an habitual offender. Alfred John Burrows, found m a dwelling without lawful excuse and on two marges of theft, was sentenced to two years. James Percy Williamson, with previous convictions, for obtaining credit by fraud, was sentenced to a year's imprisonment ana habitual offender. Oscar Standby, for breaking, entering- and theft, was snntenced t oa year's imprisonment and •three years' refoi'mative. Charles Hector Dudley, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to six months and three years' reformative treatment.

DUNEDIN, this day. William Edward John Maguire was. sent to prison to-day for seven days for contempt of Court m refusing to give evidence m a caso m the police court. The case arose out of the discussion on the Bible-in-scbools question, Maguire being charged with threatening behavior and Jonathan A. O'Brien with using insulting words m a public place with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. It was Maguire's refusal to give evidence against O'Brien which caused him" to be committed. Maguire was the Social Democratic candidate for Dunedin West at the general election.
