VIOLENT FIGHTING FOR THE GREAT DUNES.
DUNKIRK, Feb. 4. The Germans made a new and violent effort to recover the Great Dunes. The attack began on Sunday m massed formation.
Some of the enemy reached the Allied positions, and were taken prisoners.
A terrific bombardment continues
Official : German attacks were repulsed west of Perthes and north of Mes Nilles Hurl us and north of Massiges, and also on the pavilion at Bagatelle. (Received February 5, 8.40 a.m.) ' PARIS, Feb. 4. An official communique states : Our artillery repulsed a strong attack at Xotre Dame Lorette, and destroyed several blockhouses m Albert region. We recaptured a position momentarily held north of Massiges.
