The . High Commissioner reports :— -.
LONDON, Sept. 22, 11.50 a.m. Reliable: It is probable that the "battle, ' which is being fought with unparalleled fury, will continue for some days. A >new . step m the constant progress on the extreme left wing is marked by the presence of troops at Lassigny, situated: ten miles west of Noyon. This movement is of extreme importance, and explains why the Craonne region has been the centime of violent conflict and bayonet ' charges. The Germans are making desperate efforts to diminish the pressure on their extreme right wing, and have everywhere been forced to give way. Little is said about the happenings m the centre, but the French, have completed a line running from Alsace to Argonne. . . Thus t"he Germans' • centre between Rheims m the west and Soain m the east no longer has scope for movement.
