EDUCATION BOARD.

(Special to Herald.) NAPIER, this day. The Education Board met yesterday. Mr Ross announced his intention not to seek re-election ,as representative of the, South Ward, and Mr P. G. Grant jb therefore elected. -Mr Ross urged on the Board the necessity for a better understanding between committees and the Board. The latter, he said, sometimes • voted money for luxuries, and then when their liver was not m good order turned down applications for absolute necessities. ' This got the committees,' backs up, and caused trouble. The allocation of grants should bemade bi annually after applications had been reported on by the foreman. In that way the Board would protect their funds, on which there would be a big demand during the next ten years on account of the number of schools that would have to be rebuilt m, that time. Under the present system the most persistent applicants for grants wore often the most successful. The 1 Chairman's report staled: Appointments—Mr A.. Lord, pupil teacher, Gisborne; Miss F. Rich, assistant, Wuerenga-a-hika. Resignations: — Mrs Morgan, Matawai ; Miss J. Johnston, Mmiwai. The Motu school: To he removed to a- site half way between tliat place and Matawai. One room at Ormond is to lie pulled down, and two new ones substituted. Two new grates are to be installed at Patuta'hi. Pound for pound subsidy was granted, for asphalting- lat1 at Kaiti.
