REFORM ORGANISATION.
OPTBHSTIC REPORT,
fPer Press Association.) VvT-__LINGTON, last night.. Speaking about the prospects of the ' Reform party m. the constituencies which fringe, the northern part of the South Island, Mr A. A. Paape (Reform Party organiser) said that the conference recently held at; Motueka for the purpose of selecting a Reform candidate for that seat was m itself a very important and significant gathering. Ono of the candidates for the party nomination ? Mr Geo. McMahon, was the .selected Liberal candidate for Nelson at the last election. Thp conference was attended by 42 delegates from all parts of the electorate, and of that number, Mr Paape stated, fully fifteen were at the time of the "last election keen supporters of the present 'Opposition. ' "AU the candidates for .selection were keen to stand," Mr Paape added, "and I believe that any one s of them could .have captured the seat. The .members of our party are particularly optimistic right through the electorate, and the / seat is absolutely ours. "So far as Wairau is concerned," Mr Paape continued, "the position there is equally good, and we are confident of winning that seat also. It has been stated that we cannot get a candidate for Nelson, but we are working m our own way m regard to that. A requisition is now m circulation, asking, a gentleman to stand m the interests of the Reform party, and, to mv knowledge, m Brightwater and Wakefield alone over 150 electors have signed the requisition. At Richmond practically mno-tenths of the people have sign**.. Tn my opinion, Mr Atmore will require a majority of 500 m Nelson city m order to get the seat, and he cannot possibly get it. I feel perfectly satisfied that these three seats on the north of the South Island are going to bo won by the Reform Party." Mr Paape left to-night •on a visit to the Auckland district.
