LOSS OF MR A. P. BAILEY'S MOTHER.
Mrs Bailey, mother of Mr A. P. Hailey, of Gisborne, was a passenger by the s.s. Empress of Ireland, and was lost when the vessel foundered. Mrs Hailey, who was formerly a resident of Rotorua, left New Zealand m March, 1913, for Vancouver, where she has been spending some time with her daughter-in-law. On May 21 Mrs Hailey left Vancouver to join the Empress of Ireland at Montreal. On receipt of the news of the disaster, Mr Hailey cabled to his relatives m Vancouver, asking if his mother had joined the steamer, and if so, was she among those saved. This morning he received the distressing news that Mrs Hailey was a passenger by the steamer and that there was no hope of her having, been rescued.,
The Dead March m Saul was impressively played by the Opera House orchestra before the screening of pictures on Saturday evening.
