In days gone by the golfer swore By just a . simple slau of .leather Sewn cunningly around, a core Made of tho unresiiient feat her. So for/a while it winged its flight. By tevery; passing breeze deflected. Until the .gutty saw the light* And feather pilules were -rejected. The putty had a solid worth And made the game so much more simple. The i;olfe,r. smiled upon its birth ; ■The driver's face betrayed a dimple. For long the bounding ball .«urvived.; Men saw pprfgctionlin the gutty And. then the rubber-core arrived And 'ma'do it eeenxlike, so muchpiitty. At Sandy Lodge its end- was seen In spite of champions skilled and clever ; They laid it dead upon the green And gently holed ifi\ out for ever. | The rubber-core has claimed the bun, : But golfers, growing discontented, i Will yearn to do each hole in one With something not as> yet invented ! ■ — Touclistone.
